The Walk
The cars became more and more annoying around 5:00 AM. It got busy. People must have been heading to work. I was half afraid one would run off the road and slide into the campground.
My tent spot was 30 feet from the highway down a little hill. Train tracks were on the other side of the Rv park. You could tell if it was a commuter train going to LA or a freight train by how long it blew the horn.
I was up at 5:30 and had time to kill. I had no chance to fall back asleep. The store in Acton where I needed to buy 4 days of resupply didn’t open until 8. So I hung out on a porch swing and drank my la croix.
Around 7:45 I tried to hitch unsuccessfully for 30 minutes, then decided to try an Uber. It worked! They were 15 minutes away, but I was happy to get a ride. The Acton market had coffee and bagels, which was an expected treat.
After my resupply and breakfast, I walked to the town stop sign to hitch back. 4 minutes later a guy pulled over and asked where I was headed. It was the dad of a local PCT hiker who was taking a day off. They lived in the area. Perfect! They gave me an orange and drove me back to the RV park.
After that I headed out to trail for the 10 mile walk to Agua Dulche. I’d be there at a good time and I looked forward to a relaxing day.
The day was cool and we had a desert walk. About halfway we went under a highway. Through a long tunnel. There were a lot of green trees and a little stream after. That was cool!
Then we kept desert walking to Vazquez rocks. It’s a rock formation used to film more than 60 movies! It was a nice flat day of hiking.
Met up with friends in town and ate and relaxed. Then cowboy camped with 10 other hikers in a vacant lot.
Tomorrow is another easy day. Looking forward to breakfast. Not sure how ma my miles I’ll hike.
