PCT Day 1 – Did somebody say burger?
I rolled over and checked the time. 4:30. My stomach was filled with nervous excitement and I wanted to get moving! I slept better than expected. Maybe the nights on the AZT will pay off.

AZT Day 14 – Ending at the Copper Mountain Hotel
The dark sky exploded with stars. The moon was almost full. And I could see the silouette if a tall mountain poking though the horizon like a finger.

AZT Day 13 – Sleeping under the stars
Laying under the stars for the first time feels right. The only thing between me and the ground is a sheet of tyvek, an air mattress, and my sleeping bag.

AZT Day 12 – Kearny Zero
Copper Mining Town. One street with food, rest, and drink. Kind hole in the wall.

AZT Day 11 – The Final Push to Kearny
4:30 came early. I woke up to another cold and tried morning. My right heel was tender and a bit swollen when I woke up. Rough vibes to start the day.

AZT Day 10 – The Standoff
The bull walked over. The section of fence right next to the cattle gate was laying down. Shit.

AZT Day 9 – Rocky Trails and Vitamin I
Wide awake at 5:00. I can’t sleep in even in a real bed! My mind was ready to get on the trail. It was better to lay down and relax with service on my phone.

AZT Day 8 – The 7k climb to an Airbnb
I’m writing this in a real bed. After a shower and a few hot meals. It feels nice not to worry about the basics and to have running water.

AZT Day 7 – Navigating a chilly morning and Mt. Mica
5:00 came quick at Grass Shack. It was cold. The two water bottles I left outside the tent were frozen.

AZT Day 6 – Saguaros, real food, and a missing resupply
8 hours of sleep. This was the first night I didn’t wake up multiple times. And I felt fresh. It’s crazy how your body can go from being sore to normal after a good nights sleep.
